Hard flaccid syndrome
What is Hard flaccid syndrome
Hard flaccid syndrome (HFS), also known as hard flaccid, is a chronic condition that causes the penis to be in a semi-erect state, even when not aroused. This can be a very distressing and frustrating condition for men, as it can make it difficult to achieve or maintain an erection, and can also cause pain.
Research behind HFS is lacking with only a handful of studies available. This adds to the frustration experienced by men.
Here are some of the symptoms of hard flaccid syndrome:
A penis that is always partially erect, even when not aroused
Difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection
Pain in the penis, scrotum, or perineum
Numbness or tingling in the penis
Difficulty urinating
Low libido
The exact cause of hard flaccid syndrome is unknown, but it is thought to be related to a number of factors, including:
Nerve damage
Muscle tension
Hormonal imbalances
Psychological factors
Treatment for hard flaccid syndrome may include:
Physiotherapy to help improve blood flow to the penis
Biofeedback therapy to help you learn to control your muscles
Counselling to address any psychological factors that may be contributing to the condition
If you are struggling with this condition, it is important to be patient and work with your healthcare practitioner to find a treatment plan that is right for you.
