Specialist Prostate Surgery Physiotherapy in Coventry
Expert Pre-hab and Post-Op Rehabilitation for Prostate Cancer Patients. Regain your continence, erectile function, and confidence with elite-level, hands-on care.
A prostate cancer diagnosis and the prospect of a radical prostatectomy are overwhelming. While your surgical team's priority is safely removing the cancer, it is entirely normal to feel anxious about the side effects of the surgery—specifically, urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction.
Many men are simply handed a generic leaflet on "pelvic floor exercises" and told to hope for the best. That is not an acceptable standard of care. Your recovery requires a precise, structured, and highly specialized rehabilitation pathway.
Phase 1: Pre-Hab (Before Your Surgery)
The absolute best time to start your pelvic floor rehabilitation is before your operation. Research shows that men who undergo targeted "Pre-hab" recover their bladder control significantly faster than those who don't. At Delaney Physiotherapy, we will:
Assess your baseline pelvic floor strength and function.
Teach you how to isolate and engage the correct muscles (without using the wrong compensation muscles).
Build "muscle memory" so your body knows exactly what to do the moment the catheter is removed.
Phase 2: Post-Op Rehabilitation
Once your catheter is removed, we begin the active recovery phase. The trauma of the surgery can leave the pelvic floor muscles weakened, inhibited, or guarding in spasm. Moving beyond generic Kegel apps, my advanced clinical approach involves:
Hands-on, neuromuscular facilitation to wake up the pelvic floor muscles.
Progressive loading and endurance training to stop the leaking when you cough, sneeze, or stand up.
Erectile dysfunction management and safe return-to-exercise protocols.
Elite-Level Care You Can Trust
You are recovering from major surgery; you need a recognized specialist. I am proud to serve as a Clinical Working Group Member and Co-Author for the new National POGP 'Pelvic Floor Advice for Men' Guidelines.
By actively helping to write the UK's national clinical standards, I ensure that my prostate recovery patients in Coventry receive the highest level of evidence-based care available. I routinely collaborate with leading Urologists to ensure your recovery pathway is seamless and effective.
Don't leave your recovery to chance or generic leaflets.
