When you are dealing with sensitive, complex issues like male pelvic pain, Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS), or post-prostatectomy incontinence, you need to know that your care is based on the absolute highest clinical standards.

I am incredibly proud to announce that I have been appointed by the Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy (POGP) network to help edit and modernize the upcoming National Guidelines: 'Pelvic Floor Advice for Men.'

Why the National Guidelines Needed an Update

The landscape of men's pelvic health has evolved dramatically. The previous national guidelines were published in 2015, and while they provided excellent foundational advice for post-prostate surgery weakness, the modern male patient requires a more nuanced approach.

Historically, men with pelvic floor issues were given a generic sheet of "Kegel" exercises and told to just "squeeze and lift." Today, we know that for many men—especially younger athletes, weightlifters, and those suffering from CPPS or "Hard Flaccid" syndrome—the pelvic floor is actually hypertonic (too tight).

If a muscle is already in spasm or guarding, prescribing more squeezing only fuels the fire.

Setting the New Standard for Male Pelvic Rehab

My role in editing the new national booklet is to ensure that the UK's standard of care reflects the latest evidence-based practices for both pelvic floor weakness and pelvic floor tightness.

The new guidelines will help clinicians and patients understand the critical difference between the two, moving away from generic exercises and toward comprehensive, functional rehabilitation. This means utilizing advanced manual therapy to calm the nervous system, releasing tight tissues, and implementing proper load management to get men back to the gym, the golf course, and daily life without pain.

What This Means for Patients in Coventry & the Midlands

You don't have to wait for the new national guidelines to be published to benefit from them. As a solo practitioner at Delaney Physiotherapy in Coventry, I am already implementing these cutting-edge, national-standard pathways every single day in my clinic.

When you book an assessment at Delaney Physio, you are not being passed off to a junior member of staff. You work directly 1-on-1 with me, receiving the exact specialist clinical reasoning that is shaping the future of men's health across the UK.
